Founded in 2001, the Aiken Stitchin’ Belles chapter is based in Aiken, SC. Our members tend to live in Aiken (SC), Augusta (GA), and the surrounding CSRA (Central Savannah River Area). The Stitchin’ Belles meet at the Aiken Historical Museum twice a month (a monthly stitch-in and a monthly business meeting/education program). Members participate in a variety of needlework projects involving techniques such as cross stitch, needlepoint, crewel embroidery, hardanger, and beading. We host guest lecturers, instruct each other in needlework skills, tour needlework stores online, and learn from group projects. We have a yearly display of our works at the Museum. If you have a needle and thread, please come and join us.
Guests are welcome to attend two meetings before they are asked to join the chapter, so people can visit us to see what we are doing before making that commitment.
EGA is focused on education: Our members are exposed to a wide variety of techniques using needle and thread. Members are always welcome to come to the meetings but are never required to participate in any program. If members do not want to work on the program of the day, they are invited to bring in their own projects and continue to work on them. Everyone can sit in on the planned program even if they are not participating.
EGA has divided the country into 12 regions. The Aiken Stitchin’ Belles belong to the Carolinas Region which is comprised of all of North and South Carolina, the southwestern corner of Virginia, and the eastern portion of Georgia.
As a member of the Aiken Stitchin’ Belles, you will have access to a wide variety of documents, projects, classes and retreats/seminars sponsored by National, Region, and local groups.
Membership fees for the Aiken Stitchin’ Belles are $67 for a year (12 months from date of joining). This breaks down to National dues of $55, Carolinas Region dues of $5, and Chapter dues of $7.
Outreach:
In the past, our outreach program has included such activities as stitching bookmarks for the Aiken County Library summer children’s program, making Lydia bags, filling gift boxes for Samaritan’s Purse, stitching Habitat for Humanity samplers for new homeowners, and donating food to the local food pantry. In addition, we support the Aiken County Museum because they allow us to hold our meetings there. We have also donated to local charities.
